Start with the age group and coaching problem you need to solve. These guides help volunteer coaches plan faster, keep players moving, and connect drills to game situations.

How to run a youth hockey practice →Use the volunteer-coach template to choose a theme, build stations, include goalies, and create progression.
Use the practice-plan template →Many youth practices run about 50 to 60 minutes. The important part is minimizing standing, keeping explanations short, and planning transitions before players step on the ice.
A clear theme, skating and puck touches, age-appropriate skill work, decision-making or competition, and a game-like finish. Goalies should also have a purpose in the plan rather than simply facing random shots.
For younger teams, three to five well-organized activities are usually more useful than squeezing in too many drills. Repetition and progression matter more than constant drill changes.
